LIQUID WASTE COLLECTION BROUGHT TO STANDSTILL AS WASTE WORKERS CONTINUE TO STRIKE

Waste collection workers at Cleanaway Padstow are taking protected action for the second time, with liquid waste collections expected to stop until Tuesday October 3rd, following the long weekend.

The action will impact Barangaroo International Towers, major commercial retailers including Woolworths, Coles, KFC, McDonalds and Hungry Jacks, alongside various pubs, clubs and restaurants across Sydney, the Central Coast, Illawarra and Blue Mountains.

Over 15 workers are going on strike, who comprise 100% of this specialised liquid waste collection workforce. This follows ongoing negotiations where these workers are continuing to fight attacks on entitlements, conditions and job security.

TWU NSW/QLD State Secretary, Richard Olsen said:

“The fights which we are continuing to have with Cleanaway continue to attack every day working families. These workers don’t want to have to strike and lose another day’s pay, but this company are giving them no choice.

“We are continuing to try and have good faith negotiations with Cleanaway, but they are continuing to place enormous pressures on workers to rush and cut corners on safety, whilst they drive through some of our busiest streets.

“Cleanaway continue to show their blatant disregard for our community, and we are continuing to fight to ensure that safety is kept at the forefront of working conditions.” he said
