Supporting Bus Drivers

The TWU has already met with the office of the Transport Minister. We laid on the table our concerns of the effects of competitive tendering on drivers and the industry.

We have reminded Minister Constance of the need for added protections of job security, and industry standards of pay, conditions and entitlements in all future contracts.

We are the sole representative union in the private bus industry.

As the bus drivers’ union, the TWU will continue to take that argument and fight, if necessary, up to the Government and Transport for NSW until we have the protections needed for drivers.

We have had officials of the Union at the eight depots from the first day of the government announcement, letting the drivers know that we are here to support and represent them.

We are back in depots this week and we will continue to be there to support and assist the drivers in the weeks and months to come.

The TWU have fought for and won agreements covering bus operators in the Sydney Metro, Outer Metro (Central Coast, Hunter, Blue Mountains, Wollongong), and regional and rural areas (from the Far North Coast to Queanbeyan).

As with the privatisation of the Inner West (Region 6), we will be working just as hard to represent the drivers in Regions 7, 8, and 9.
