In fact, TWU members have observed failures in the supply chain, such as safety breaches and lack of inductions, which lead the TWU to call on Aldi to become a responsible client.
The TWU took action against Aldi at sites across Australia in July, with Transport Workers and members attending Majors Bargaining Round 4 (MBR4) meetings also joining the call for better industry standards.
At MBR4, Majors and Retail Delegates joined each other for updates on industry negotiations, to talk about the importance of giving transport workers a voice, and what workers in majors and retail yards can learn from each other in helping set minimum industry standards.
TWU Secretary Richard Olsen said:
“Aldi have continued to be a recalcitrant actor, and today we said that we have not forgotten about you, or your workers. TWU HSRs have issued PINs against Aldi, Aldi still have not become a responsible client. As our fight to stop the race to the bottom continues in years to come, they can bet that Transport Workers will be expecting better
from them.”
