Taking it to the streets: the TWU tolls and road tax rally

On Saturday 12th September the TWU and the Transport Industry were out in full force to show our objections to the toll on the NorthConnex and more across Sydney.

The effects of the pandemic have bitten the industry hard and the NSW Government and Transurban have made a deal which will keep us in debt for 40 plus years.

The NSW Government must be supporting the industry that keeps our economies moving, not making cosy deals with a company that is simply increasing tolls to the detriment of small businesses, owner drivers.

Our convoy was a show of anger against the new NorthConnex. The deals made between the NSW Government and the toll road operator Transurban is a rort. Costs for road tolls are increasing and no consultation with the transport industry who face more expenses every day.

Transport Workers must have a cap on tolls, No New Tolls, commercial vehicle support in tough times from Transurban, legislated fairness in payment times for contracts, industry agreements that pay tolls. Government can show leadership and share the responsibility for a fairer industry to ensure all Government contracts include enforceable minimum standards and rates.

Thanks for the support from Drivers, John Graham shadow Roads Minister, Daniel Mookhey MLC and David Harris MP Member for Wyong and Shadow Minister for Regional Transport.

TWU also appreciates the support of the NSW Police Force and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command – NSW Police Force
