TWU Enews

Check out this week’s TWU E-News: CELEBRATING DEDICATED DELEGATES

Over the last week, we had the privilege of honouring dedicated TWU Members at our National Council in Brisbane, including issuing the National Council Medal to a longtime NSW Majors Delegate. I have more to say about the medal recipient below.

We’ve also seen members continue to work hard throughout the state. This has been another week of countless yard meetings, strategy, and training – including the first training session held at our new Wollongong office.

Elsewhere, Mondiale members have continued their Protected Industrial Action. Your steadfast commitment to better conditions is to be commended, and your union is with you.

Today, I also joined TWU bus delegates as CDC opened their new Rouse Hill depot. We welcome permanent facilities for bus drivers, but will keep a watchful eye to ensure that CDC and Transport for New South Wales give drivers better amenity across the network. More on this below.

New Depot For Bus Drivers

Earlier today, NSW State Secretary Richard Olsen, Sydney Sub-branch Secretary Rob Rasmussen and Official Josh Dodsworth joined TWU Bus Members and Delegates at the opening of the new CDC Depot at Rouse Hill.

The depot will have permanent, modern facilities, and is situated in the growing North-Western region of Sydney.

The TWU welcomes investment in permanent facilities from CDC and Transport for New South Wales. The opening of this depot is one step on the way to improving access to amenity for drivers. All drivers deserve hygienic facilities, and the industry itself still requires serious attention.

The Union will continue to keep its ear to the ground, working with delegates and advocating for a better future.

State Secretary Richard Olsen says, “Through the courage and leadership of members, we will continue to see improvements in amenity for bus drivers. The TWU welcomes the opening of this depot, and calls on all stakeholders to continue working with us to remedy the current industry climate.”

Congratulations Margaret Harvey!

The TWU would like to extend its warmest congratulations to longtime delegate Margaret Harvey, who received the TWU National Council Medal in Brisbanefor her years of dedication to the Transport Workers’ Union.

State Secretary Richard Olsen says, “Over many years Margaret has been a staunch champion of workers and a fighter for reform, from her yard all the way to Canberra. She always gives 100% and is incredibly deserving of this accolade.”

Margaret has fought on behalf of her fellow workers for decades under her membership tenure.
