| This week, I joined 2GB’s Clinton Maynard to discuss the unfair treatment and retrenchment faced by Boral workers. Since last year, we have been fighting in the courts and elsewhere to achieve a fair result for these workers following Boral’s disgraceful actions, and we recently took our next step by filing a Fair Work Commission Application to set minimum contract standards for contract drivers. You can hear my comments online on Instagram at @twu.nsw, or on Facebook at facebook.com/TWUNSW/ |

You may recall in last week’s E-newsletter we discussed another FWC Application, that being our historic multi-employer bargaining submission calling for over 8000 bus workers in NSW, among the lowest paid in Australia, to receive conditions befitting the contributions they make to the community.
This is just one of the many acts we’ll be taking to protect transport workers in 2026, and it has been heartening to see the strong and supportive response from TWU membership. The NSW Government, as the client, now knows that its obligations to bus workers are clear.

Elsewhere in the Union, TWU WHS & Education Official Emily Armstrong presented at the annual Union Legal and Industrial Officers Conference at Unions NSW this week, sharing stories of how the TWU has utilised WHS laws to organise and achieve wins for members over the years. This is an area in which the TWU has a proven track record of leadership, and congratulations to Emily for the successful conference.
Lastly, next week on Sunday, March 8 will be International Women’s Day. Already, we have seen members show immense solidarity with the cause and their fellow workers, taking part in celebrating TWU Women in yards across NSW. We look forward to sharing more images with you next week here, and on social media.
The 2026 campaign is now well underway, and our momentum is not slowing down. Together, we’ll achieve a fairer industry.
In unity,
Richard Olsen
TWU NSW Secretary

Richard Olsen yesterday reached 28 years at the TWU. Thank you Richard for everything you continue to do for Transport Workers.
