TWU Enews

Check out this week’s TWU E-News: TAKING OUR INNOVATION GLOBAL

Following a week of members taking action, preparing for the future and working to keep their workplaces safe, this has been another busy week at the union.

Just today, we welcomed Linfox and BevChain delegates onsite, where they voted unanimously to enforce provisions in both EAs around “notification and reporting” to the TWU.

Elsewhere, we’re continuing to work with bus industry delegates following last week’s meeting, held an important meeting with Startrack workers, and are supporting members across the industry, including at Menzies where members are preparing to vote on their enterprise agreement.

This week, I have been overseas for the International Transport Workers’ Federation Safe Rates Week of Action.

The TWU’s fight for Safe Rates has grown into a global movement – our innovation is now recognised across borders.

Fair pay and conditions are essential to protecting lives for transport workers on our roads. The international action taking place this week is an opportunity for us to strengthen our right to protect Australia’s Safe Rate laws, in solidarity with transport workers around the world.

I am proud that the Transport Workers’ Union has been a global leader in this reform, and we will not stop working to ensure that major clients deliver the Safe Rates that workers deserve.

Training, Meetings and Action

Once again, there has been momentum across the industry this week, as we head Towards 26 and the ongoing fight for fair pay and conditions rages on.

Mondiale workers have continued their Protected Industrial Action, making progress on winning better outcomes.

TWU officials also met with members at Cleanaway Moruya, discussing yard conditions and general procedures. They also met with Team Global Express delegates, including at Bankstown Airport.

Closer to home, members were at the union all week, including for Delegate 2 training and multiple state delegates meetings, including with Startrack, Linfox and BevChain.

Linfox and BevChain delegates in particular unanimously voted to enforce provisions in both EAs around “notification and reporting” to the TWU.

State Secretary Richard Olsen says, “During a week of global action and attention to the conditions of Transport Workers, it is great to see that members and delegates are continuing to engage with their union and their employers, across the entire industry, to get results. Every achievement is to be commended.”
