35 lives lost last year
Tragically, 34 lives were lost in 85 crashes involving trucks on our roads last year. This sobering statistic underscores the dangerous reality faced by truck drivers daily as they undertake one of Australia’s most dangerous jobs every single day. In regional areas across NSW, deteriorating road conditions are a significant contributing factor to these accidents. Driver fatigue also remains a critical issue, exacerbated by the lack of adequate rest stops. |
Companies’ relentless pursuit of profits often comes at the expense of worker safety, pushing drivers beyond their limits and increasing the risk of crashes. Truck driving is already the most dangerous job in Australia, and it’s clear that more must be done to protect our drivers and save lives on NSW roads. The TWU will continue to advocate this year for safer conditions, improved rest facilities and fair treatment to ensure our drivers can return home safely after every trip. |

Dnata Bargaining Update
Over Christmas, it became clear the current Dnata deal isn’t where most members want it to be. While we’ve been pushing Dnata to finalise the drafting, we’ve also been listening to worker’s feedback.
Member-led bargaining teams came back together this week to map out the next steps. After discussions, we’ve put forward a revised proposal to Dnata that includes:
- Pay Increases: A 6% pay rise, backdated, to ensure fair compensation for the hard work you’ve been doing.
- Overtime & Shift Penalties: Increasing overtime for loaded rate workers and boosting AM/PM shift penalties.
- Expiry Date: Maintaining an expiry date in June 2026.
We’ve told Dnata to come back to the table with an improved offer.
Once we hear back, report-backs will be held to keep members in the loop and discuss any further steps.
