Outstanding win for waste workers
In an outstanding win for waste workers here in New South Wales, the Full Bench of the Fair Work Commission has sided with you – Transport Workers Union members – in its second ever intractable bargaining workplace determination issued against Cleanaway’s Unanderra site.
Here’s a breakdown of the significant wins you’ve achieved:
- Significant Wage Increases: An immediate 11.5% pay rise, including backpay.
- Further Pay Rises: Additional 3% wage increases in both 2025 and 2026.
- Maintenance of Ordinary Hours: Your current work hours remain unchanged, with ordinary hours continuing from Monday to Friday.
- Classification Coverage: No reductions in classification for existing workers.
- Good Faith Bargaining: Cleanaway was found to have failed in its good faith bargaining obligations.
This victory is a testament to your dedication and unity. Together, we continue to set strong precedents and secure fair outcomes for all members. Congratulations on this well-deserved win!
Ampol Refuelers Want Better!
Aircraft refuellers are demanding fairer pay, better hours, and more full-time positions from Ampol, with strikes imminent after a unanimous vote for protected industrial action.
Ampol’s excuse of low wages for contracts with airlines like Qantas
won’t hold. Workers are united and ready to fight, with 100% of voters supporting strike action.
Over 50 workers at Sydney Airport are prepared to halt operations if Ampol doesn’t deliver a fair deal. Potential stoppages could range from four hours to an indefinite period. The battle with Ampol continues! READ MORE |
Remembering Ian Smith
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ian Smith, a former TWU President and SA/NT Branch Secretary with 30 years of dedicated service. |
Ian joined as a member in 1994 at TNT, where he led negotiations for South Australia’s first national enterprise agreement. His contributions on the National Committee of Management led to significant pay and condition improvements for drivers and pivotal transport reforms after a long battle.
Ian was highly respected and loved by all who knew him. His legacy will continue to inspire us.
Aldi Must Become A Responsible Client!
Aldi must acknowledge its responsibility for safety in Australia’s transport industry, one of the nation’s most dangerous sectors.
Coles, Woolworths, transport employers, owner-driver associations, and transport workers are united for a safer, fairer, and sustainable industry. Despite critical reforms by Federal Parliament, Aldi has not joined this effort. As both a supermarket and transport operator, Aldi must recognize the pressures it contributes to.
We urge Aldi to work with us now. If they continue to resist, legislative action will hold them accountable.
Join the TWU’s fight to make Aldi accountable!
