TWU Enews

Check out this week’s TWU E-News: WORKERS TAKE ACTION AGAINST AMAZON

For years, Amazon has taken advantage of Australian workers and Australian businesses, by undercutting on wages, taxes, not respecting workers’ rights to a voice, and through extreme surveillance measures.

This week, Transport Workers across Australia rallied in front of Amazon to say “no more!”

Across the nation, workers took action to send Amazon a message, particularly Amazon Flex, who have exploited Transport Workers for too long. It’s time for Amazon to wake up and come to the table.

Here in NSW, over 100 Delegates gathered outside the Kemps Creek facility to fight for better sector standards. TWU once again took a stand, as we will in 2026, to let them know that we aren’t going anywhere.

We also joined Delegates this week at the 2026 MBR, wherewe analysed results from bargaining surveys for the fight for 2026, and heard firsthand accounts of poor safety practices in Transport.
The messages that members were sending the Union through the survey results was loud and clear: They’re ready to fight for safer, fairer workplaces in 2026.

As we approach the end of an incredibly successful year for this union, the fight for 2026 is already beginning. Actions such as these remind clients and employers that the TWU is serious about worker pay and worker conditions.

BLITZ AT BORDER EXPRESS

This week, TWU Officials were out with Border Express members from across the country, to talk to them about the fight for 2026, with over 200 Transport EAs expiring, and how setting better sector standards will improve the conditions of all Transport Workers.

TWU Members at Border Express know all too well the safety shortcuts and bad practices their employer takes in search of profit. We were reminded of this just last month, when a jackknifed Border Express truck driven by a contractor blocked the Great Western Highway at Leura.

Border Express members told the TWU that they agree it’s time for a national agreement. The Union will stand by all workers in the pursuit of safety and better conditions. In 2026, the TWU will be fighting to make clients pay, set better sector standards, and become more member-led.

TWU NSW Secretary Richard Olsen says,

“Border Express workers are to be commended for standing up for not only a better workplace, but a better industry. Border Express need to accept reality, work with the Union on a fair agreement, and play their role in stopping the race to the bottom.”
