Over this last week, TWU members at StarTrack sent a clear message that they won’t put up with broken promises anymore, by voting in favour of a Protected Action Ballot (PAB). I say more on this below. We also welcomed several groups of delegates this week to discuss the free productivity training deals we’ve won from employers, which entitles members to unlock a 1% wage increase without having to pay out of pocket. We’ll keep fighting to make sure your conditions and wages are protected. And following last week’s funding announcement, we look forward to next steps being made on the completion of the first dedicated heavy vehicle rest area in Western Sydney. |

STARTRACK PROTECTED ACTION BALLOT PASSES
This week, Union Members told StarTrack that we won’t be putting up with attacks on workers’ job security and wages anymore. The company has completely eroded its trust with workers by backtracking on a litany of commitments and pushing for no wage increase in 2027, while StarTrack employees endure the lowest superannuation contributions of all the major road transport companies. Over this last week, members voted on a Protected Action Ballot (PAB) that would give employees the opportunity to initiate protected industrial action. The result was clear: Tolerance has run out for broken promises from StarTrak. With a strong yes vote we’re in a good spot to move our claims forward, and, if necessary, proceed with potential strike action. Thank you to all members who voted. |
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: HEAVY VEHICLE REST AREA FOR WESTERN SYDNEY
Last week, we shared with you that Minns Labor Government and the Federal Albanese Labor Government are each contributing $40 Million to developing Western Sydney’s first Heavy Vehicle Rest Area, with a site being selected that is only five minutes from the M7 and within ten minutes from the M4. After years of campaigning for a better deal for truck drivers, the new facility will have premium facilities to allow Truckies to take a rest, shower, have a meal or recharge, and is well-placed for drivers hauling freight through Sydney between Victoria and Queensland. Whilst we celebrate this news and commend the State and Federal Governments for taking action, selecting the site is only the first step towards seeing the job through. We won’t take an eye off this project until it’s seen through to the end, and we’ll continue to advocate at every turn to make sure this premium facility is up and running as soon as possible. Truckies have waited long enough, and this Heavy Vehicle Rest Area can’t be delivered a moment too soon. We’ll make sure to keep you updated as this project progresses. TWU NSW Secretary Richard Olsen said, “Securing the land is an exemplary first step towards the construction of Western Sydney’s first purpose-built, dedicated rest stop. “Now we look forward to consultation with the NSW Government on the shape and infrastructure of this rest area. We will work together to ensure Truck Drivers get the very best facility to foster their health and safety.” |
FREE PRODUCTIVITY TRAINING FOR MEMBERS
Earlier this week, we hosted delegates from Linfox and Bevchain at our Minchinbury office to chat with them about the productivity increase we managed to secure in our latest round of negotiations.
Instead of having to pay out of pocket to receive the productivity training, TWU Members will receive the training for free, unlocking a wage increase at no expense to them.
Bevchain delegates met with NSW Secretary Richard Olsen on Tuesday to share and celebrate the good news.
This was a great win, and is an example of how we’ll never stop fighting to make sure our Members get a fair go and are treated with the dignity at work.
