Demanding answers on Community Transport Central Coast Collapse.
We are demanding answers from Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community Transport about why long-serving drivers from the recently collapsed Community Transport Central Coast are not being offered roles, despite HKCT being appointed as the new provider.
More than 70 workers lost their jobs when CTCC suddenly shut down. The TWU has been working with the NSW Government to restore these essential services, expecting that former drivers would be re-employed.
Transport for NSW announced HKCT would take over services for Central Coast clients. However, emails seen by the TWU suggest HKCT is selectively contacting workers and possibly excluding union delegates from job offers.
These community transport workers are crucial to serving vulnerable residents on the Central Coast. HKCT must give these experienced drivers the opportunity to continue providing these vital services.
We are urging the NSW Government to ensure HKCT conducts a fair and transparent rehiring process to offer employment to all dedicated drivers.
Qantas Must Prioritise Workers!
Qantas must prioritise workers as its freight division secures a 24-hour cargo precinct at Western Sydney International Airport. This precinct is expected to support 19,000 jobs annually across supply chains. The TWU is calling on Qantas to commit to the principles of a proposed Safe and Secure Skies Commission, which would ensure fair standards, accountability, and safety for workers and passengers. Despite a High Court ruling in 2023 that Qantas illegally sacked 1,700 workers, the company has yet to compensate them. Qantas must use this new opportunity to show it values its workforce and is committed to fair, safe conditions for all involved. READ MORE HERE |

WHS Win For Owner-Drivers
Owner-drivers have secured a significant victory with a landmark decision by the WHS regulator. SafeWork has ruled owner-drivers cannot be forced to pay for safety equipment required by their employer. This follows Capital Transport’s attempt to make drivers purchase wheel chocks after they were mandated for safe loading and unloading. The company directed them to buy the equipment themselves without consulting drivers. The TWU intervened, and SafeWork confirmed it is the employer’s responsibility to provide safety equipment at no cost to workers, protecting owner-drivers from unfair financial burdens. |
