TWU Enews

Check out this week’s TWU E-News: Taking Our Priorities to the PM

We’re now a week out from launching our 2026 fight at our Delegates Conference.

We will continue to post updates from the conference online at the TWU NSW Facebook and Instagram pages. Thank you again to all of our delegates for making this year’s conference one of our best. The enthusiasm, energy and strategy on display are why we continue to win big across the transport industry.

This week, we took our fresh message to Canberra, letting Albo know face-to-face what our priorities are for further Transport Reform. More on this below.

We also welcomed back many of our bus delegates to Minchinbury today, where we picked up where we left off last week, and spoke about the ways we can set better sector standards and achieve better pay and conditions for Transport Workers in 2026.

Years of planning and action by Transport Workers have gotten us to this point. The results of next year will determine the rules we play by in 2029, 2032, and beyond. That said, I know that we will achieve great things next year, because we have the best, most relentless members in the trade union movement.

TWU Delegation to Canberra Speaks to MPs, Albo, About What We’ve Achieved Together and What’s Next

This week, Secretary Richard Olsen and President Tony Matthews joined National Secretary Michael Kaine and members from across the transport industry in Canberra, to meet with recently re-elected Ministers, newly elected MPs, and speak to the Prime Minister about transport reform.

The Union thanked re-elected MPs for their support in passing crucial TWU legislation, such as Same Job Same Pay and Transport Reform bills in the last term, and congratulated them on safeguarding them.

The delegation also took time to meet with new MPs in Labor’s new majority government, to take them on the journey of not only the reform we’ve had passed in federal parliament, but also the fight for 2026 and the years of preparation it took to get where the union is today.

On Wednesday, the delegation also held an exclusive meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, where we discussed how we’re fighting for a safer, fairer industry, across gig, aviation and road.

TWU NSW Secretary Richard Olsen says:

“I’m pleased to say that the TWU had a constructive visit to Canberra. This federal government is more than aware of our commitment to good, lasting transport reform, and the work that we believe needs to be done to stop the race to the bottom. We look forward to engaging in further reform, and ensuring that we have safe and secure skies.

“I thank the Prime Minister and re-elected Ministers for engaging constructively and consistently with the Transport Workers’ Union. We are a relentless union, and we’ll only be ramping up from here.”
