Health and Safety Representative Training

There is nothing more important than your safety at work.

Why should I become a Health and Safety Rep?

Becoming a HSR means you could save lives.

People in the transport industry currently make up 40% of all workplace deaths in Australia.

That means that out of all the people who never make it home from work, almost half are our brothers and sisters in transport. We are dedicated to getting this figure down to zero; to creating safer workplaces across the state, and empowering our members to speak up and take action when things aren’t right.

That’s why we’re so proud to offer industry best-practice training with our approved and qualified Assistant Secretary and Director of WHS & Education, Marija Marsic, to enable workers to look out for the safety of all their mates on the job.

Our training is tailor-made for you.

As a SafeWork NSW and Comcare-approved WHS HSR training provider, we provide HSRs with an initial five-day HSR training course and one-day refresher courses thereafter. The training we offer is carefully industry-focused, and the conversations, activities and handouts are based on the specific safety needs of different sites across the transport industry. Whether you’re beneath the wing in our airports, pulling out onto the highway from a distribution centre, moving containers from the ports or keeping the streets of your community free from waste, the training you receive will be catered specifically to you.

You have a right to attend the five-day HSR training course once a request has been made to your employer or person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU). Your employer or PCBU must pay you for the whole five-day duration of the course as a regular day worked, and must pay for the course costs.

Who will I be training with?

All training courses are run by our Director of Health, Safety and Member Education, Marija Marsic.

Marija is a highly qualified and skilled trainer, and works carefully to identify the different learning styles and personalities of everyone she trains, to ensure everyone has the best possible learning experience.

Marija is a Director on the Board of Directors for the Workers’ Health Centre and Industrial Health and Research Foundation. She also sits on various boards relating to health, safety and workers’ compensation with the Labor Council of NSW and the Australian Council of Trade Unions. Marija is a contributor to government submissions, and creates and edits safety-related materials for these organisations, as well as providing guidance, assistance and advice. Marija is also engaged by Unions NSW and other trade unions to facilitate their own staff training.
