TWU Enews

Check out this week’s TWU E-News: TWU Takes Centre Stage at SafeWork Conference

This week, the TWU exhibited our leadership in workplace Health & Safety at this year’s SafeWork HSR conference.

Not only did the TWU have the biggest delegation by far of Health & Safety Representatives, we also took an active role throughout the day, participating in panels and hosting multiple interactive sessions.

It was great to see how much this conference is growing year over year, and to engage with members across the union movement on workplace safety in our state.
Richard Olsen
Marija Marsic and Emily Armstrong are to be commended for the leadership they have shown in this space, and for carrying out yesterday’s events with aplomb. Congratulations Dave Andrews for getting on stage to tell your story, and to all of our TWU HSRs.

We hope all TWU members that attended found the day enjoyable. For those of you who would like to become a HSR in your workplace, our union is proud to host multiple training sessions throughout the year.

Defibs in Trucks Launch

Yesterday, the TWU was proud to be at the Defibs in Trucks launch with Senator Tony Sheldon. The program involves the implementation of life saving equipment in trucks, a great initiative involving St John’s, NHVR and Ron Finemore, supported by the TWU.

The program is a example of when transport companies work proactively with the union to achieve positive results.

State Secretary Richard Olsen says,

“This is a worthy program which could be the difference between life and death on somebody’s worst day. While we hope for the best, it’s important to prepare for the worst, and hopefully this will lead to some peace of mind.”

Remembering Christmas Nouata

This week, the union was visited by the family of Christmas Nouata, a staunch TWU Delegate who recently passed away.

Chris had decades of experience in fighting for fairer conditions at work, from his time at StarTrack to this year’s action at Mondiale, in which he played a pivotal role.

Chris was always the first to show-up no matter the time or weather, and always saw things through. He will be missed at the Transport Workers’ Union, and our doors are always open to his loved ones.
